There's no connection between this story theory and the two Mr Xs glitch admittedly, but it's still fun to think about.

The prevailing theories are that, either Capcom messed up the storytelling (possible), or Mr X regenerated after encountering Birkin (unlikely), but it's also possible that a second Tyrant was dropped after Birkin destroyed one and Leon set off an alarm in the NEST laboratory. In fact, Mr X seems to get properly killed in both Leon and Claire's campaign, in different ways - in Claire's he's ripped apart by G-Virus Birkin halfway through the story, and in Leon's he's the final boss and is blown apart with a rocket launcher.
